Each flaky, buttery twist of puff pastry is filled with cinnamon-sugar and baked to a lovely golden-brown. Then it's drizzled with a simple, creamy vanilla icing! Ingredients
- For the knots:
- flour, to taste, for dusting a work surface
- 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed, according to the package directions
- 1/4 cup salted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1 large egg
- water, to taste
- For the icing:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions
Step 1 -Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
Step 2 -Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
Step 3 -Using the flour, lightly dust a work surface, then unfold the puff pastry sheets onto the surface.
Step 4 -Gently roll each puff pastry sheet out with a rolling pin.
Step 5 -Brush the melted butter over one of the puff pastry sheets, making sure to brush the edges as well.
Step 6 -In a bowl, combine the brown sugar and the cinnamon.
Step 7 -Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar over the melted butter on the puff pastry sheet.
Step 8 -Place the second puff pastry sheet over the melted butter layer on the first puff pastry layer.
Step 9 -Using a pizza cutter or a sharp knife, cut the layered dough into 1/2-inch strips.
Step 10 -Taking two strips at a time, twist them around each other, then roll them up into a knot.
Step 11 -Repeat until all of the strips are used.
Step 12 -Place each knot on the prepared baking sheet.
Step 13 -Whisk the egg and the water together to create an egg wash.
Step 14 -Evenly brush the egg wash onto each knot.
Step 15 -Bake until the knots are golden, about 15 minutes.
Step 16 -In a bowl, whisk the powdered sugar, the milk, and the vanilla together.
Step 17 -Allow the knots to cool slightly.
Step 18 -Drizzle the glaze over each knot.
Step 19 -Serve.
