Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 pound extra-lean ground beef
  • 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
  • salt, to taste
  • pepper, to taste
  • 3 cups marinara, divided
  • 20 ounces cheese ravioli, uncooked
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup parmesan cheese, freshly grated

Directions

Step 1 -Move an oven rack to the top third of the oven.

Step 2 -Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 3 -Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.

Step 4 -Add the oil and the onion to a skillet over medium-high heat and sauté until the onions are starting to brown and are tender, about 4-5 minutes.

Step 5 -Add in the ground beef and the garlic and cook, breaking up the beef as it sautés, until browned and cooked through, about 5-8 minutes.

Step 6 -Spoon out any excess fat.

Step 7 -Season the beef mixture with the salt and the pepper.

Step 8 -Add 2 cups of the marinara to the ground beef mixture, stirring to incorporate and heating it through.

Step 9 -Pour the remaining marinara into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly along the bottom.

Step 10 -Add 1/2 of the ravioli to the baking dish, aiming for a fairly even layer but allowing for a little overlap.

Step 11 -Add 1/2 of the beef sauce to the baking dish.

Step 12 -Add 1/2 of the mozzarella and 1/2 of the parmesan to the baking dish.

Step 13 -Repeat the layers.

Step 14 -Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.

Step 15 -Remove the foil and broil until the top cheese layer is bubbly and browned, about 3 minutes.

Step 16 -Serve immediately.
